Learn About Our Program

Families interested in homeownership are welcome to attend an application information meeting at the Habitat office, 403 Salem Avenue, at 9:00 a.m. on the first Saturday of every month. Habitat's selection process considers a family's need for better housing, ability to pay a mortgage loan and willingness to partner in the program. Habitat is a fair housing lender, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for homeownership without regard to race, color, religion, sex, disability or national origin. Special accommodations are available upon request.
Habitat is different from other housing programs. We build houses with partner families and sell them at cost with a no-interest loan. Families approved to purchase Habitat homes must contribute "sweat equity hours" on their house and those of others, and attend classes in money management and other topics necessary for successful homeownership.

Partnering with Habitat is like taking a second job, and requires sacrificing free time. Families begin working on the building sites and attending classes as soon as they are approved. Habitat workdays are usually Wednesdays and Saturdays.
