Family Selection Committee

 

The Family Selection Committee enacts Habitat's standards for selection of potential Habitat homebuyers.  These criteria are based upon Habitat's policies of non-discrimination and on the applicant's ability to pay, need for housing and willingness to partner.  The Family Selection Committee is charged with the challenging task of making decisions regarding homeowner applicants since they must decide which applicants meet the established criteria.  The integrity of HFHRV's program is dependent on the implementation of fair, objective and well-documented family selection policies.

The Family Selection Committee includes in its membership individuals who are not members of the Board of Directors.  Members agree to serve on the committee for a period of at least one year.  The Chair of the Family Selection Committee will be a member of the Board of Directors.

The duties and responsibilities of the Family Selection Committee include the following:

Recruiting and training Committee members

Holding regular homeowner intake sessions

Reviewing, evaluating, and prioritizing homeowner applications according to established criteria

Recommending approval of qualified families to the Board of Directors
