Thrivent Builds

Habitat for Humanity International was founded by a man from Georgia named Millard Fuller.  Millard made his first million dollars before he turned 30 years old.  Several years later Millard rededicated his life to Christ, gave away his money and decided to begin a ministry in which he could fulfill the teachings of Christ.

Millard and his wife Linda paired with Clarence Jordan, founder of Koinonia Farm, to devise an inspired plan to help make home ownership available to those who could not otherwise afford it.  He sold all of his businesses and started a "Fund for Humanity" to build affordable housing for people in need.  Milliard's money, along with other donations to Koinonia's Fund for Humanity, provided the resources to purchase building materials, and Koinonia staff and volunteers helped construct the houses.  The low, no-interest loan payments were deposited back into the Fund for Humanity to finance more homes.

That blueprint for building affordable housing for the poor later became the foundation upon which the ministry of Habitat for Humanity was based.  Habitat now builds homes in over 60 countries worldwide, and has housed approximately a half-million people!
