Habitat Store Concept

The Habitat Store is an expansion of the Habitat Home Store that operated for several years in a storage building behind HFHRV's Cleveland Avenue offices.  Our full-time operation opened for business in January 2002 on Patterson Avenue in a leased building.  We moved to our current location on Salem Avenue in January 2005 and continue to serve the general public by providing an assortment of supplies at attractive prices for home improvements, repairs and other building projects.

The Habitat Store is meant to supplement fund raising in a creative way.  Although Habitat will still need to do fund raising, the store is an alternative way to raise funds.   It also provides individuals and companies who might be unable to give financial support a way to make a difference in the community.  A real win-win situation, it helps to keep things out to the landfill that don't need to be there while affording the donor a tax write-off and the cost of bringing the stock to the landfill.   Income supports construction of Habitat homes in the Roanoke Valley.

In fact, the success of our store enabled us to dedicate one fully funded Habitat Store home and has partially funded several more homes.  We are hoping that the continuing support of the people of the Roanoke Valley will enable us to build additional Habitat Homes in the next year!!

This retail venture also creates exciting new volunteer opportunities with Habitat for those who are not suited to construction work.  Get involved!  We welcome volunteers to help out at the store and/or drive our truck to pick up donations.  Please call the store at 767-2267 or email volunteer@habitat-roanoke.org to learn more about volunteering.
